Storytelling Week 2019 25th Anniversary
Monday 8th July
This year marks 25 years of Storytelling at Bleddfa.
Come and discover your own unique voice as a storyteller and immerse yourself in the ancient art of storytelling in a converted barn among the rolling Welsh hills. The focus of the week is on traditional, orally derived stories which could include myths, legends, folktales, from any period or place. We bring a large selection of books with us for you to browse so don’t worry about arriving without a specific story to work on.
Storytellers of all levels of experience are welcome to the week long course. Many participants arrive never having told a story before, others have already done the course before and some earn part of their living from telling stories so this course will suit most levels. An orientation and initiation for those who are new and a fresh re-discovery of what drew us into the world of stories in the first place and a renewed joy and commitment for those with more experience.
The bulk of the sessions are delivered by Michael Harvey and Hazel Bradley the two resident tutors, with additional teaching from two guest tutors. The week is based around practical exercises and activities with ample time to work in groups and individually in the story-soaked atmosphere of rural Mid-Wales.
Participants are encouraged to find their own unique voice within a supportive and like-minded group with tuition from top storytellers. There is also lots of time to tell, both in pairs and small groups as well as in the two evening ceilidhs which are open to the public. Daily warm-ups and varied workshops look at specific aspects of story preparation and delivery followed by story sharing in the group and evening performances. Individual tutorials are available and you will have access to an extensive collection of books of stories and related subjects.
Course fee: £395. A discounted Early bird fee is £365 (pay your deposit before Tuesday April 30th to qualify). We can recommend places to stay in the area, alternatively there is space to camp in the orchard at the Bleddfa Centre. Please see the Storytelling at Bleddfa website for full details!
